Betty Barton

August 26, 1922 — January 24, 2021

Betty Munk Barton passed away on January 24, 2021 at 6:15 pm at the Golden Skyline Assisted Living facility in Ephraim Utah on her favorite day of the week, Sunday, surrounded by family members. She was born on August 26, 1922 to Louis and Dagmar Munk in Manti, Utah. Most of her growing up years were spent in Gunnison, Utah, where she graduated from Gunnison High School. After high school she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to work. During that time, she met George Alden Barton of Manti, Utah. They were married on November 3, 1943 in the Manti Utah Temple. They purchased a house on 200 East and 100 North shortly after they were married. That house was the family home for more than 70 years.

George, however, died in a farm accident on April 13, 1959, leaving Betty to raise their five children without him. She soon found the need to "occupy her mind" as she put it, so she began attending classes at Snow College. Six years later, she graduated from Utah State University with a degree in education. The next Fall, in 1966, she began her teaching career at Ephraim Jr High. She taught Home Economics and Art for the next 22 years. After retiring in 1988,she kept busy with her many hobbies, interests, church service and family. She loved to quilt, sew, crochet, draw, garden, cook and research her family history She also served in the Family History Center, the Manti Utah Temple office and many other church callings. She loved her family and extended family very much, hosting many family gatherings. She worked hard and sacrificed much to raise and care for her children. She had a huge influence on family, friends and those she taught and met throughout her 98 years on this earth.

Betty is survived by her 5 children and their spouses, David and Susan Larson Barton of Manhattan, Kansas; Paul and Teri Ross Barton of Payson, Utah; Lamar and Rolayne Jensen Barton of Ephraim, Utah; Joanne Barton and Bryan Elliott of Emmett, Idaho; Clark and Lori deWaal Barton of Sandy, Utah; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; her sister, Luella Jorgensen; and in-laws Nola Rae (Donald) Munk; Roger (DeEtte Munk) Nelson; Elaine Barton and Doug Allred; Barbara Jane (Bruce) Barton; Barbara Sue (Donald) Barton; Keith (Virginia Barton) Sudweeks and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
