Clark Mackay
Richfield, Utah

Bryan Clark Mackay, 68, passed away on June 13, 2021 from acute kidney failure in the Utah Valley Medical Center in Provo. Clark was born to Bryant C and Janice Marie Clark Mackay on November 26, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

After serving a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina, he married Sharon Theide. Clark went on to study culinary arts and became an excellent chef, winning prizes at several state fairs. Clark also had an amazing mind, receiving his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Utah. His precision and attention to detail led him to become a pre-construction engineer for UDOT where he worked for 35 years. Clark and Sharon were blessed with two sons: Aaron Craig Mackay and Adam Clark Mackay. Sadly, both boys were born with cystic fibrosis and later died in their young adult years. He devotedly provided for them through sickness and health. In Aaron and Adam’s childhood Clark enjoyed gardening, hunting, and participating in the Scout program with his boys. Clark and Sharon later divorced.

Clark found Ursula Jean Jacobs in South Carolina and married her on February 14, 2001. They later solemnized their marriage for all eternity on July 31, 2002 in the Manti Temple. Ursula brought three children into Clark’s life, all of which he loyally raised. Clark and Ursula were blessed with a little boy, Bryan Thomas Mackay, in 2003 a few months after Clark’s 50th birthday.  After spending much of his life caring for his family through health difficulties he began to experience his own. Clark’s health quickly became a hindrance to his favorite activities. However, he still managed to teach his new children valuable skills such as gardening, cooking, cleaning, canning, and hard work.

Clark also discovered some new hobbies to enjoy. He learned the thrill of Ebay, holding tiny Yorkies on his lap, and being a grandpa in his later years. His grandkids loved his willingness to listen to them and observe their daily activities through video calls. One of the last things he did for them was valiantly bear his testimony of the reality of God and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ursula; and their four children: Rachel Bringhurst, Robert Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter, and Bryan Mackay. He left a wonderful legacy for his eight grandchildren: Gideon, AJ, Asher, Emeline, Emma, William, MacGregor, and Stewart; mother, Janice; siblings: Diana (Ray) McCormack, Lisa McGeary, Ben (Rachel) Mackay, Rebecca Saunders.

He is preceded in death by his sons Aaron and Adam Mackay; father, Bryant; brother-in-law, Larry Saunders.
