Daniel Joseph Guida

June 15, 1946 — August 30, 2021

Daniel Guida
Panguitch, Utah

Daniel J. Guida was born in Missoula, Montana. He passed away at the age of 75 on Monday, August 30, 2021 after a long illness. He married Donna Oberriter in November, 1977 aboard the USS Princess Louise in San Pedro Harbor, California and were together for 44 years.  He leaves behind his wife, Donna; daughters Monica (Richard) Houghton and Kiersten Garrison; grandsons: Brandon and Nolan Garrison; sister: Theresa (Frank) Crosby; brother: William "Bill" Guida.

Daniel was successful in all his endeavors. He held many occupations: construction manager, overseeing projects for TRW and rehabbing homes after the Watts riots for the federal government; and owner of his own construction company. After retiring to Panguitch, he decided to become a chef at Ruby’s Inn, channeling the enjoyment of cooking for his family into his new profession. He loved the challenge of calculating the correct amount of food to prepare for each evening’s guests and staff. After Ruby’s Inn, he joined Utah Power, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He read meters from Brian Head to Marysvale. He loved talking to the homeowners, and he especially enjoyed sitting on someone’s front porch at Panguitch Lake to eat his lunch and listen to the Elk bugles in the fall.

Daniel was an enthusiastic tennis player, often playing 7 hours a day followed by a round of golf. Sailing was another passion; he joined an international crew of 5 to sail a 42’ sailboat from San Pedro Harbor, CA to the tip of Baja for 4 months. He enjoyed sailing our 32’ sailboat with the girls, who he taught the basics of sailing. We would turn on classical music, sit on the bow and watch the dolphins swim and jump beside us.

He obtained his SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) license for a second time later in life.  He raced at Laguna Seca, the Detroit Grand Prix (GP), the Dallas GP, and other racetracks in the United States. He was an ardent follower of the Formula One races and always wanted to attend the Monaco Grand Prix in person.

Burial of cremated remains services will be held at a later date in Panguitch, UT and the US Virgin Islands. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
