Grant Duane Ross

October 23, 1940 — March 11, 2020

G. Duane Ross

Richfield, Utah

Heaven has received a stalwart missionary and servant, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Grant Duane Ross, 79, returned home to his Heavenly Father on March 11, 2020, at his home in Richfield surrounded by his loving family. Dad was born on October 23, 1940 to Elmo Grant and Naomi Berniece Lott Ross in Joseph, Utah. He was the oldest of four children.

After graduating from high school, Dad met the love of his life, Sandi Sevy. They were married in Salt Lake, Utah on October 6, 1961. They had three children: Kathy, Karla and Kelly. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity on May 11, 1991. They shared a wonderful 58 years together.

Dad loved riding his Harley at a young age, but throughout all of his life, he most loved attending his children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He also loved boating at Lake Powell, camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, riding four-wheelers and spending time in the great outdoors with his family where his fondest memories were made. He loved spending every possible minute with Mom, his children and grandchildren. They truly were the light of his life.

Dad was a hard worker through his many years of owning and operating his own trucking company and Sandi’s Drive-Inn. He graduated from the National FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in December, 1984. To serve and protect was one of Dad’s greatest desires. He provided over 30 years of dedicated service in law enforcement in Sevier County. There he served as chief of police for Richfield City and as a deputy with Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.

Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Mom served an 18-month mission in the Lima, Peru Temple. Dad and Mom also served together as temple workers in the Manti Temple for many years. He served faithfully in many different callings within the Church. He has grown so very close to and fond of his 9th Ward family whom he loved so much.

Dad always went out of his way to provide service and made friends wherever he went. His selflessness, service, and love for others have taught us so much and it will live on with each of us. Dad, thank you so much for being such a great example to all of us! We love you and will miss you! Well done thou good and faithful servant.

Duane is survived by his sweetheart and eternal companion, Sandi, Richfield; children: Kathy (Jan) Quarnberg, Annabella; Karla Ross, Richfield; and Kelly (Stephanie) Ross, Herriman; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Mark (Diann) Ross, Richfield; sister-in-law, Vickie Ross, Richfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Craig Ross; sister, Sheral Ross.

The family extends a special thanks to our long-time family friend and hospice nurse, Helen Simmons and the entire staff who took care of Dad during his final days of mortality.
