Haruko Barnes

Richfield, Utah

Haruko Sasaki Barnes, 91, passed away May 12, 2020 in Richfield. She was born in Tokyo, Japan on June 15, 1928 to Kiichi and Sumiko Sasaki.

Haruko met Almay, better known as "Bud" through friends when he was on assignment in Japan. When he left Japan for his next assignment in Viet Nam, they continued their friendship which had grown to be more meaningful. When it came time for him to re-enlist, his colonel called him in and asked if he had thought about re-enlisting and his reply was "Yep, thought about it, laughed about it and forgot about it." He was discharged at Travis AFB, went to Albuquerque to see his parents, bought a one-way ticket to Japan and Haruko. They were married December 20, 1967.

After living in Japan for a few years, Haruko and Bud moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where they lived some 20 years. They then moved to Port Orchard, WA, where they bought their home and Bud worked at the Bremerton Shipyard. Haruko loved her home and they made it a beautiful home with a yard full of flowers. She was always appreciative of anything anyone did for her.

Haruko is survived by her sister-in-law, Dayle (Lynn) Findlay, Richfield; brother-in-law Donald Barnes, Valley City, ND. Preceded in death by her husband, Bud; parents; and other family members.

Cremation services have been held. Haruko will be buried with her husband’s cremated remains in a graveside service to be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
