Jeannine Chamberlain

Richfield, Utah

Jeannine Whittaker Chamberlain, 91, completed her mortal sojourn on October 29, 2019. Her life was a beautiful example of love for and service to family, friends, community and the Lord.

Jeannine was born in Circleville, Utah on September 16, 1928 to Christopher Arthur Whittaker and Ada Catherine Wiley. She was 17 years of age when her mother passed away. Her death left Jeannine as the oldest of four children still living at home with their father. Her experience helping to raise and nurture her younger siblings undoubtedly contributed to her abilities as a mother and grandmother.

Jeannine married Ken Chamberlain on May 29, 1947 in the St. George Temple. Together they raised two children: Catherine "Cathy" and Richard and enjoyed their life together until Ken’s death in 2003. One of Jeannine’s greatest and undoubtedly most difficult acts of service was moving in with Cathy and providing 24-hour care as she battled cancer and the related treatments until her passing on January 30, 2016.

Following Ken’s graduation from law school and while serving as the Kane County Attorney, Ken received an appointment as an assistant to the Utah State Attorney General and the family moved to Salt Lake City. After completing this employment opportunity, the family settled in Richfield in 1956 where Ken pursued his career in law and Jeannine raised their family. Jeannine’s church callings and service included, Relief Society president, Young Women’s presidency, Primary presidency and temple ordinance worker. After her children were grown she worked at Richfield Floral and Valley Central Bank and studied cosmetology at Sevier Valley Technical School. Her love for and devotion to family continued throughout her lifetime, which greatly blessed the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jeannine leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen; grandchildren: Rochelle (Kelly) Crane, Richfield; Elizabeth (Kent) Hulet, Seattle, WA; Nicole (Kevin) Jeffs, Springville; Melanie (Colton) Douglas, Ephraim; Kristin (Andrew) Briggs, Houston, TX; Lisa (Joshua) Thomas, Roy; and Michael Chamberlain, Seattle, WA; together with 26 great- grandchildren. Jeannine is also survived by her sister, Nadean Houston; brother, Dee Whittaker; and sisters-in-law: Ramona Hafen and Sylvia Chamberlain. Predeceased sisters and brothers include: Athene, Arthea, Howard, Kelton; and three brothers who died in infancy: Stanford and twins Boyd and Bryce.
