Loreen Sorensen

April 6, 1955 — July 29, 2021

Loreen Sorensen
Gunnison, Utah

Loreen Cahoon Sorensen, beloved wife of Lane Rex Sorensen, of Gunnison, Utah passed away at the young age of 66 on July 29, 2021 in her home, surrounded by family.  She fought a rare and aggressive form of cancer for the last year and a half of her life. Although she wanted to live longer on earth, she was happy to be reunited with her parents, grandparents and brother, Jerry, in the Spirit World.  She had a firm belief in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the plan of salvation.

Loreen was born April 6, 1955 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Lloyd “George” and Hazel Mildred Swalm Cahoon.  After a happy and full childhood in Canada, she married Lane in the Manti, Utah Temple on December 17, 1977.  To this union were born four children and 13 grandchildren who lovingly called her Grandma Moo Moo.  Her posterity includes:  Brian (Karen) – Tanner (15), Brielle (12), Brett (10), Sadie (7) of Mt. Pleasant; Cindy (Matthew) Anderson – Gavin (9), Alayna (6) of Saratoga Springs; Tyler (Amber) – Landon (14), Braden (12), Bailey (9), Rachel (7) of Axtell; Carl (Danielle) – Carly (7), Bridger (5), Wyatt (1) of Fayette.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who taught her posterity the gospel of Jesus Christ by precept and example.  Her greatest hope is that they will stay on the covenant path and be together as an eternal family.

Throughout her life, Loreen had many hobbies including singing, reading, calligraphy, quilting and ice skating.  She enjoyed teaching 5th grade in the Gunnison Valley for close to 30 years.  She mentored hundreds of youth who will fondly remember her humor and quick wit, singing happy birthday to them in opera, writing/directing the 5th grade play about U.S. history, and making learning engaging and fun!

She loved serving the Lord in many capacities – whether it be Primary chorister, ward and stake Relief Society president, Cub Scout leader and especially as a temple ordinance worker and coordinator until her health kept her from performing those duties.

She will dearly miss her husband who worked hard on their family dairy farm and stood by her side.  He was her rock, strength and helpmeet, especially in the last years of her life.

She will be missed by her brother, Lloyd Nolan Cahoon; sister, Dixie (Robert) Mendenhall; and sister-in-law, Kim (Mel) Weston as well as her many Sorensen in-laws: Morris (Sherry); Sherwin (Debra); Len (Sheryl); Jarvis (Pauline); Wayne (Ann); Kevin (Amy); and LuAnn (Robert) Bennett.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother, and parents-in-law, Bernard and Irma Sorensen.
