Mary Loraine Allen

September 17, 1922 — January 25, 2021

Mary Allen
Panguitch, Utah

Our beloved grandmother, aunt, and friend, Mary Loraine Sevy Allen, 98, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2021 in Panguitch, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born on September, 17, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Heber and Sofia Knell Sevy, at the home of her grandparents, John and Mary Sevy.  She was raised on the Escalante Desert west of Cedar City until the age of 6 when her family moved to Cedar City. She graduated from Cedar High and attended BAC, which is now SUU. She lived with Polio since the age of 3, where she learned that red lipstick, a smile, and a sense of humor can get her through any tough day.

Loraine married the love of her life Samuel Earl Allen on May 3, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they were married for 60 years. He preceded her in death January 28, 2002.  From 1942 to 1946 they lived in El Paso while Sam was in the military. They then moved to Panguitch, Utah where they raised their two boys, Rodger and Charlie, and ran many successful businesses.

She spent the majority of her life as a bookkeeper, homemaker, and working in public health which was something she was proud of. Loraine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She was also a member of the American Legion organization, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and the Panguitch Homemakers Club.
Loraine had so much patience and unconditional love for her 6 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. When arriving at Grandmas you could count on her having a cookie in the jar, a craft to be done, and a little smooch for you.

She is survived by her 6 grandchildren: Kenny (Jaccie) Allen, Panguitch; Clint (Amber) Allen, GA; Debbie (Chad) Robinson, MT; Melanie (Edward) Del Toro, St. George; Kristen (Tony) Orton, Parowan; Brandon (Stephaine) Allen, Cedar City; 21 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Marion Turner; multiple nieces.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life Samuel; both of her sons: Rodger Earl Allen (1990) and Charlie McKee Allen (2018); sister, Adele Decker; and brother Russel Sevy.
