Obituary

MayDene Oldroyd

Glenwood, Utah

On June 26, 2020 our beautiful and sweet mother Opal MayDene Torgersen Oldroyd, 82 of Glenwood, Utah went to meet her sweetheart and eternal companion. MayDene was born December 12, 1938 in Salina, Utah, to Reuben and Opal Brindley Torgersen of Koosharem, Utah. She had 4 brothers: Hal (Dorothy) Torgersen, New Harmony; Tarval (Louise) Torgersen, Koosharem; Sheril (Diane) Torgersen, Draper; and Don (Melinda) Torgersen, Koosharem; and 2 sisters, Sheron (Mel) Kleinman, St. George; and Ranae (Val) Norman, Koosharem.

Mom grew up in the little town of Koosharem, where she rode horses, hauled hay, and got to help her dad and two older brothers on the farm. She also helped her mother in the house with cooking and taking care of younger brothers and sisters. When Mom was ready to go to high school she left Koosharem and moved to Richfield.

Her senior year she met her best friend, husband and eternal companion, Jerald Todd Oldroyd, and was married on July 12, 1957 in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with 4 children: Kathleen (Richard) Kendall, Levan; Wayne (Sharon) Oldroyd, Glenwood; Brent (Susan) Oldroyd, Beaver; Jerry (Tara) Oldroyd, Cedar City.

Mom was a very sweet and loving person. She never wanted to be in the fore-front, she supported Dad in all he wanted to do. She always said, "He was the picture and she was the frame". The truth is she needed him as much as he needed her and together they were perfect. She had a hard time when he passed and felt a tremendous loss after 60 years of marriage. Now once again they are together.

Mom loved her family and enjoyed having them visit. She loved family reunions and Christmas family get-togethers. She would bring enough food to feed an army and what wasn't eaten was sent home with family members. She worried about feeding those who came to visit and enjoyed making special things to eat.

Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until Dad got so sick that she had to stay home and take care of him. She enjoyed teaching the Sunbeams and nursery and loved the little kids she taught. She and Dad enjoyed working together at the Bishop's Storehouse for five years. She supported her family in their various calls; especially dad when he was the bishop.

Mom worked in the Glenwood Post Office for 28 years, and throughout her life she did various jobs such as: school lunch and Mac's Pack; but the job she enjoyed the most was being a mother and wife.

It's with mournful hearts that we say good bye to our sweet mother, grandmother and great-grandma but it's with happy and grateful hearts for we know that she is once again reunited with her sweetheart, and what a reunion it will be!

MayDene is survived by her four children; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
