Robert Eldred "Bob" Nilsson, the man with a perpetual smile, 88, Monroe, passed away peacefully November 2, 2019 at his home in Monroe surrounded by his family. He was born December 16, 1930 in Monroe to James Eldred and Atella Christensen Nilsson. He married his high school sweetheart, Beverlee Swindle, June 27, 1951 in the Manti LDS Temple.

Bob received his education at Monroe where he graduated from South Sevier High School in 1949. He graduated from Utah State University in June of 1953 with the BA in Elementary Education. He joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and received his pilot’s wings in 1954. Stationed in Texas at Hondo, Reese, Randolph and Biggs Air Force bases before moving to Salt Lake City and then to Monroe. His career as a teacher started in Salt Lake City and ended in Monroe. He had a genuine love for his students. He also worked in all areas of building trades and was part owner of B & B Construction.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob held many positions such as bishopric member,Manti Temple worker, and he served a mission along with his wife Beverlee in the California, San Diego Mission at the Mormon Battalion Visitor’s Center. They also participated in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in New York. He was a member of the Lions Club where he served as president and building chairman where he coordinated many projects including the Monroe City Community Center. Bob loved community service and was honored as "Volunteer of the Year" by Monroe City in 2007. He was a commander of the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and loved his fellow veterans. He had a special gift of making friends along with unconditional love for everyone. He enjoyed meeting new people, boating with friends and family, camping in the outdoors and working with his hands. His greatest love was his family and he cherished his time with them.

He is survived by his sweet wife, Beverlee; sons: Kirt (Tammy) Nilsson, Kraig (Colleen) Nilsson, all of Monroe; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Karen Swindle. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Q (Warren) Cluff; and brother-in-law, Roger Swindle.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 12:00 Noon in the Monroe Stake Center, 140 South Main. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. or Saturday morning at the stake center in Monroe from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery with military honors by the Sevier Valley American Legion Post #37.
