Obituary

Sharon Capt

Monroe, Utah

Sharon Lynn Quist Capt, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 19, 2020 in Pleasant Grove at the age of 79. Our mother was born on March 16, 1941 in Pasadena, California. She is the youngest daughter of Lynn Rulon and Ivy Elizabeth Foulger Quist.

Originally, Sharon was raised in the San Gabriel Valley and graduated from West Covina High School in 1959. During her teenage years, she was a volunteer at the annual Pasadena Rose Parade. She carefully arranged flower-patterns on several gorgeous panoramic floats. Sharon worked as an usher in the entertainment industry during the 1950’s for the annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California. As a young adult, she participated in Church camping and hiking trips to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.

Sharon met her eternal companion and husband, Robert Charles Capt on a blind date in October 1959. Together, they enjoyed their friends and beautiful drives along Pacific Coast Highway and long walks along the shore line. Robert and Sharon were married in a civil ceremony on May 21, 1960 in West Covina, CA which was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. Earlier this year, Bob and Sharon celebrated with family an incredible milestone their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob preceded her in death on September 8, 2020.

Sharon was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the date of her baptism She shared her strong faith, courage, and was very proud to be a direct descendent of the Daughters’ of Utah Pioneers. She served willingly for over 40 years, as the Relief Society president, Sunday School teacher and in the Primary among countless other callings in the Monroe Utah Stake. She was a friend to all. Robert and Sharon were always found helping others within the Sevier County communities.

After raising her children, Sharon attended Southern Utah State University in Cedar City, Utah and studied education. She graduated with her Bachelors’ degree. Sharon taught kindergarten and first grade students at Monroe Elementary and substitute taught at the Sevier School District. She was a dedicated teacher and a strong proponent of education.

Sharon loved spending time with her family by four-wheeling in the mountains and shared an infinite appreciation of nature. She studied and participated in interior decorating, floral arranging, and professional cake baking. Sharon deeply appreciated all types of music. Mother took voice lessons and developed the ability to sing complex arrangements. During our large family holiday gatherings, she sang as an alto in harmony with family members.

The Capt family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Valeo Hospice Team and most especially her nurse Jessica Padilla. This consists of the little Green Valley (Monroe) extended family and immediate family together with her deceased husband, our dad who helped care for Sharon. This experience was invaluable in making her last years meaningful and peaceful.

She is survived by her three incredible children: Vicki Ann Capt (Helen); Diana Lynn Holliday (Kent); Brian Charles Capt (Lisa); 8 grandchildren and 15-great-grandchildren; a loving sister, Patricia Faye Quist Fisher; in addition to her nieces, nephews and her dear friend, Kendall Whitlock.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Robert; and nephew, Gregory Lynn Fisher.
