Unsil Payne

Monroe, Utah

Unsil Pak Payne "Uni", 74, passed away with her loving husband, Mike at her side on March 28, 2020 at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Our kind and loving wife mother, sister, aunt and friend, Uni, was born February 5, 1946 in Bupyong-don, Buk-Kv, Inchon, South Korea to No Sin Pak and Kwang Cha Yi. She has one brother, Young Cha Pak.

Unsil met her sweetheart Michael Elwood Payne while he was serving in the army there, on December 7, 1966. They were married at the embassy on May 1, 1969. Again, in an ancient Korean wedding and modern wedding on May 7th.

Unsil arrived in America on October 25, 1969. She learned English quickly. She wanted to learn everything. Their home was always impeccably clean and designed with one sitting room for their Korean collections. She was also a wonderful cook. Her sisters-in-law taught her to crochet and embroidery, she quickly became a master. The underside of her embroidery work looks nearly as pretty as the top. Many gifts were given by her from her talents. A sister-in-law introduced her to a sewing machine she quickly picked that up as well, sewing many shirts, suits and coats for Mike, clothes for herself, including her uniforms, curtains and household necessities as well.

On May 8, 1973 their new daughter arrived from Korea, Misil (pronounced Michelle) Payne. Motherhood suited her well, She had plenty of family around to help, and share in loving this new daughter. Misil remembers her sewing all her designer clothes, for school and special occasions. She also remembers an award for the most beautiful yard which Unsil and Mike took pride in.

Unsil started working at the Richfield Care Center in 1974 as a nurses’s aid, and then CNA. She went on to working in physical, occupational and speech therapy departments. She was also in charge of the dining room, which was spotless in her charge. She worked there for 32 years. Also in 1978 she received her United States citizenship, which she was very proud of. She was very compassionate to everyone and especially to animals as well. In reflection of her love and compassion, at her wishes she was a medical donor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Misil (Ken) Beckstrom, Elsinore; brother; in-laws: Tom (Merrily) Payne, Joseph; Emelie (Ross) Christensen, Richfield; Joline Payne, Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Harry (JoAnne) Payne, Donna (Gayle) Parker, Rona (Fred) Lawry, Evon (Billie) Payne, Cherrill (Garth) Ogden, Dick Payne..

Cremation services will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
