Guy Price
Junction, Utah

Guy Eugene Price, our loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father on January 7, 2022, at age 87, surrounded by family at his home. After a valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma (cancer), dementia, and other health issues, his body had endured all that it could. He was born August 4, 1934 as the third of five children born to Harrison and Verda DeMille Price, in Junction, Utah, and loved growing up and living there for most of his life.

He took pride in being from Piute, and was awarded the official title of Piute High School “Chieftain” his senior year. Thanks in part to his charm, he married his high school sweetheart, Loana Thompson, on November 12, 1953 in the Manti LDS Temple, and together they have danced their way, literally and metaphorically, through 68 wonderful years. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Henderson, Nevada for work. While there, they welcomed their first two children, Keith and Paul. They enjoyed their time there, but were always hopeful for an opportunity to move home to “Little Zarahemla” (Junction), the place he loved most. They found their opportunity when the Deer Trail Mine opened a few years later, and moved back to Junction for good, welcoming three more children into their family in the years that followed: Chad, Pamela, and Melanee. Guy truly loved mining, as evidenced by working there for 18 years, and spent much of his life afterwards looking for and hoping to find his gold nugget.

In addition to mining, he worked several other jobs throughout his life. He worked for Roberts and Anderson Fencing building fences in Utah and Arizona, and always told many fun stories and fond memories of those years. He also spent many of his working years behind the wheel of a semi. He hauled cattle for Gary Schear, drove for Robinson Transport for 13.5 years until he retired, and then hauled mail part-time for Matheson Transport for another 4.5 years.

Guy was a jack-of-all-trades; a great athlete and artist as well. He loved to tinker and fix things, and spent hours in his shop working on various projects. He loved visiting the “Junction Shopping Mall”, also known as the town dumpsters, searching for lost treasure. If ever someone local needed a part, a piece of material, or a random piece of hardware, odds are one could be found at Guy’s personal Home Depot. He loved being outside and on the Beaver Mountain, thanks to spending much of his youth riding the old logging trails on horseback. He was always at home there, and spent countless days hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, and riding snowmobiles in those mountains. In addition to his time there, he spent lots of time trapping, and successfully trapped many bobcats and other animals on several of the surrounding mountains and streams. It was a hobby he loved and enjoyed for nearly all of his life.

Among the other things he did over the course of his life, he always carried a firm love of his Savior and a strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No matter where he was or what he was doing, he always made time for church. He served in many callings, including working with the young men and Boy Scouts, ward mission leader, and bishop. His faith and testimony were strong to the end, even with all of his trials and challenges, and we are forever grateful for the example he set for us.

His personality was one-of-a-kind, his laugh was unforgettable, and he will be dearly missed by all. No matter how many people there were in the world, he never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation and become friends with anyone he met, and had many lifelong friends as a result. He had a special knack for mimicking people and animals, and could always give a near-perfect impersonation. We love and will miss him, but are so grateful for the lessons he taught, the example he was, and memories he made with each of us. We are also grateful to all who have been his friend, and helped to make his life one of love and excitement. And a special thanks to Jody Houghton, his hospice nurse, who helped to provide him and us with both comfort and compassion in his final hours.

He is survived by his loving wife, Loana; his children: Keith (Rolene), Paul (Barbara), Chad, Pam (Wesley) Erickson, and Melanee (Nuel) Anderson, along with 23 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: DeMille (Francis) and George Scott; sister Beverly (Keith) Brown; and a stillborn baby sister.
